Refund & Returns Policy
How order cancellations, freight damage claims, and refunds work for shipping container orders.
Last updated: September 2026
Overview
Shipping containers are large freight items delivered directly from our depot network, so our return process works differently than a typical retail purchase. This policy explains how order cancellations, delivery inspections, and refunds are handled at Container Depot Direct.
Order Cancellations
Orders may be canceled for a full refund if cancellation is requested before the unit has been scheduled for delivery or pickup. Once a container has been scheduled for transport or has left the depot, a cancellation may be subject to a restocking and/or freight fee to cover costs already incurred. Contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or change an order.
Inspecting Your Container at Delivery
Please inspect your container at the time of delivery or pickup, before signing the delivery paperwork. Note any visible damage, missing accessories, or discrepancies from the listed condition grade directly on the delivery receipt, and take photos if possible. This is the fastest way to resolve an issue.
Damaged or Defective Containers
If your container arrives with damage caused in transit, or does not match the condition grade or specifications listed at the time of purchase, contact us within 3 business days of delivery with photos and a description of the issue. We will work with you and, where applicable, the freight carrier to resolve the claim through repair, replacement, partial refund, or full refund, depending on the situation.
Condition Grade Disputes
Our listings describe each unit’s condition grade (New/One-Trip, Cargo Worthy, Wind & Watertight, or “As-Is”). If a delivered unit does not reasonably match its listed grade, notify us within the 3-business-day inspection window above so we can review the claim.
Modified and Custom Containers
Containers that have been modified, customized, or built to order (such as offices, cabins, or units with added doors, windows, or electrical work) are not eligible for return once fabrication has begun, except in cases of a manufacturing defect or transit damage covered above.
Non-Returnable Situations
Because containers are shipped as freight and staged at your site, we generally cannot accept returns once a unit has been delivered and accepted in good condition. Change-of-mind returns after delivery are handled on a case-by-case basis and may involve pickup and freight fees deducted from any refund.
Refund Method and Timing
Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method. Card refunds through Stripe are typically returned to your card within 5–10 business days of approval. Refunds for bank wire payments are returned by wire or another mutually agreed method and may take longer to process.
Delivery Delays
Delivery timelines are estimates based on depot availability and carrier scheduling. Delays caused by weather, carrier availability, or site access issues are not eligible for refund on their own, but we will keep you informed and work to minimize any delay.
